This is a commission project
for a customer, but is something that has been done here since
1982.
The frame “jig” is the large
table-like fixture used when we either construct a frame from
scratch or Re-neck a damaged frame.
The basic dimensions are
laid out, the engine, steering head and axle locations are fixed
and then you basically connect the dots, using chrome-moly
tubing and TIG welding.
This project was especially
challenging as we needed to duplicate a previous chassis with
the needed updates and changes, but able to accommodate a
vintage piece of bodywork.
The longest chassis we have
built here was a 22 foot long prototype top fueler, and the
shortest was a Ducati 888.
The various stages of
completion can be seen with updates added as progress is made.
There are only about six
places in the country that do this, and considering the amount
of effort that goes into a project of this type, I can see why.
